Location Udupi
Typology Public
Size 1,10,000 sqft
Nestled amidst lush greenery, the design of Udupi Ashrama embraces and integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The building is thoughtfully oriented to align with the main ashram located across a tranquil water stream, creating a harmonious dialogue between the two structures and enhancing the sense of calm and connection to nature.
Drawing inspiration from local architectural traditions, the design carefully responds to the region’s climate, blending traditional elements with a modern expression. This balance respects cultural heritage while providing contemporary comfort. Every room is designed to open outwards, offering peaceful views of the surrounding greenery and encouraging a strong indoor-outdoor relationship.
At the heart of the ashram lies the community space, where residents and visitors can gather and connect. The meditation hall, located on the ground floor, sits beside an artificial pond, its entrance thoughtfully aligned with the ashram’s central axis to create a serene and contemplative environment. Above, the top floor hosts a cultural hall and various recreational facilities, providing spaces for social interaction and spiritual growth.
Together, these elements create a sanctuary that nurtures both the spirit and the community, offering a modern haven rooted deeply in tradition
